Mike Jarjura Cruises to 4th Term

Mike Jarjura has survived some bizarre elections in Waterbury. He won a contentious primary on September 11th, 2001, as the World Trade Centers tumbled down in NYC and he was the 5th person in U.S. history to win a write-in vote in a city the size of Waterbury, or larger. By comparison, election night in 2007 was a big yawn, but Mike Jarjura will happily take it. Waterbury residents gave him a thumbs up for two more years in City Hall, a time Jarjura said he will use to institutionalize changes made in city government during his first six years. Critics can say what they want about Mayor Jarjura, but at the end of the day the voters said “We like Mike.”

Former mayor Mike Bergin and Police Chief Neil O’Leary are among those keenly watching the first return in Jarjura headquarters.

After six years of focusing on systemic changes in city government, Mike Jarjura promised the next two years will be focused on development and quality of life issues.
