Letters to the Editor
NOVEMBER 2006
Dear Editor, I realize I am only 15 - on the verge of still being a kid and in the process of becoming a young man. Election time is upon us and I am amazed at the adult behavior, particularly of the politicians from local to national levels. All I hear is bashing- negative comments about the other party. The Democrats verses the Republicans. It is absolutely wrong! We are one country and we have to work together for everyones benefit and freedom. One side blames the other, accuses the other, and despises the other. Wasn’t it Lincoln that told us a long time ago that a house divided will surely fail? Did we not listen or learn? America is in trouble. Open your eyes, be wise! And keep in mind the precious morals and values that parents tried so hard to instill in us for so many years.
A lady came to our home the other night at seven thirty to endorse a Candidate. She never said one word about what he could do for us, but told us all the bad things about the other candidate! She even brought a petition with her. Please, adults do not believe everything you hear. Do not sign on the dotted line thinking someone will automatically help you if you vote for them. Do your own research! Media generally tells us what they want- who they wish to endorse or what they want you to believe. Use your own heads and hearts- don’t choose a politician because a friend, sibling or parent seems to favor them. Look into the issue at hand, all of them. Choose the least of the evils! Often children are asked to mock vote in class, and what do they normally do? Follow the parents- just like choosing your favorite baseball team or breed of dog.
And also, please stop the Bush bashing, especially you teenagers. I never met him, personally, but he is our leader- perhaps we should be praying for him. Yes, you Atheists, I said prayer. We were an always should be One Nation Under God Period. I can’t say if i like the President or not- again, I never met him. I will not talk trash about him however, that is not in my character. I have learned respect for others and to know when to speak up. I just know he has the toughest hob in the world right now, and I wouldn’t want to spend a day in his shoes. Remember History 101- and how our Government works? And pray for the soldiers too- they enlisted, they have families, and they are there for freedom’s sake. Stop blaming. Stop hating. Be helpful and progressive. Have real productive discussions and debates.
I used to think that my older brother would make an excellent politician and perhaps even president someday. He is very intelligent, has wisdom, is charismatic, a good speaker...but he is too honest. We should have learned by now from observing local to national levels over the past years that the honesty angle hardly ever works! One has to get down and dirty- pay off friends, accept money, exchange favors, etc. It is coming from a concerned teenager who may be drafted someday depending on what happens with our United States! God help us all, and God Bless America!

Dear Editor I was upset with Jim Szynkiewicz’s statements in the October, Waterbury Observer. He writes that getting out of Iraq would cause a sudden slowdown in defense spending in Connecticut. His implication is that we need a good war to keep the factories humming. He writes that “the war in Iraq may seem a distant event unless one are related to those serving there and working there.” He forgets to mention about those who died there. Like the Republican leaders in Washington, Szynkiewicz is out of touch with the realities of war.

Dear Editor Waterbury City Hall strikes again. My son owns a vehicle, which just turned twenty years old. The city, in its infinite wisdom, has deemed the car to be an antique hence worth more, which translates into; you guessed it, higher taxes. The car is maintained to be road worthy, however it has over two hundred thousand miles on it with its share of dings and rust. Quite honestly, it’s ugly.
The city says we can appeal. First, we meet at the assessor’s office for our appointment. We bring the car in question and tell the gentleman our story. The car is parked right in front of City Hall on Grand St, but he declines to take the walk outside. He says he will pass on the information to the board of assessors for judgment.
received a letter about a week letter saying appeal denied, pay up. Nice. First the burden of proof that this car is not worth the increase is on the taxpayer. Second, they make the decision without anyone having the courtesy to even look at the car. Oh yeah! I could bring it to superior court. Right. Fool me once; we know how that saying goes. Finally, we contact the mayor’s office and speak to one of the assistants there, but that was another exercise in futility. Any wonder our neighborhoods are laced with for sale signs?
Robert Carlascio, Waterbury Dear Editor I am commenting on the latest power outage on Leavenworth St. I am a licensed High Voltage Cable Splicer that actually worked on repairing the electrical system. The problem that had occured was not stated as to be “known”. This is a problem in whole for all of CT. It seems that CL&P has not taken years of preventative maintenance, although within the last 5 years they have been using our company to replace and repair broken/or downed systems.
Most of the high voltage cabling that is being replaced are old lead, or PILC cables that date from 1929 through 1969. The life span on these cable were known to be approximately 40 years. However, if not spliced properly, or spliced without care , the splices may have failed within a few years short of the life span. I cannot comment how many cables are dated way past their life span that are still in operation. I can tell you that the Northeast Utilities System are replacing them religiously, and on a daily basis. (This is not telling you that this caused the leavenworth st. explosion.)
The Leavenworth St. explosion can only be explained as an educated guess to as why this happened. An explosion of this magnitude would either be created by an interruption due to a gas explosion that was exposed to an electrical flash. (can be created by an electrical fault that occured in a manhole filled with natural gas.)
Or, this could have been created by the secondary network system having a phase to phase fault, Which is highly unlikely, unless there was an excavation mistake that happened recently, crushing two or more of the electrical wires together. This would cause the explosion to happen in multiple manholes, and would have dumped most of the buildings in the downtown area immediately, for hours, or even days. Many explosions would have occured if that were the case, instead of just Leavenworth St. I can’t make the statement about the cause of the problem, because of what I have seen as I was working in the manholes. Everything was charred and burnt, and the utility company has done everything in their power to replace the old circuits. Everything was destroyed that was originally in there. It is hard to determine a cause when everything is either gone, or burnt badly.
Here is my statement to Mayor Jarjura - There is nothing perfect in this world, especially electrical wiring. Waterbury has had a pretty good track record opposed to the other CT cities. Compare Waterbury’s outages to Hartford’s, or other major cities supplied by CL&P... The necessary fixes are being completed to replace the old stuff. Time that will tell when that will be done. The power company doesn’t house enough employees to get the job done quickly, external resources will be needed to replace the outdated material for safe operations without explosion. There are many companies such as ourselves who are waiting for work like this. Thanks for letting me comment,

Dear Editor, I am writing you in the obscure chance that you might be able to assist in the search for information relating to Boy Scout Troop 111, and the placement of a historical marker. Last year, a marker for the “Burgoyne Trail” was found in the woods, laying in the woods, laying on the ground in Washington Co., NY, that originally was placed by Boy Scout Troop 111, Mattatuck Council, Union City, CT, chartered to St. Mary’s Church. Unfortunately, it appears the Troop no longer exists, and due to council mergers, there do not appear to be any contacts for the Mattatuck Council.
As there may still be relics of the extinct Troop, might you haver information about Troop 111, and specifically the placing of this marker as a news event? Might you have the information archived about the Troop? I ask this only in seeking information so that the marker may be returned, and hopefully reinstalled with the assistance of the Scouts that originally placed it.
We would like to gain more information about the original marking, and actual location of the installation so that it may again be place, recognizing a historic location. It would certainly be a wonderful occasion to have some of the original Scouts that actually placed this marker originally, assist with its return. Now wouldn’t that make “good news” about Scouting!
Any assistance you are able to give is greatly appreciated.

Dear Editor, The evidence that the destruction of the Twin Towers on 9/11/01 was a planned, controlled demolition (con-dem), is overwhelming. The US government’s official story reeks of massive cover-up.
We’ve all seen con-dem’s on TV, where the building implodes exactly into the foundation on which it was built. That’s what happened to the World Trader Center buildings. They collapsed into themselves, leaving not much more than dust and molten steel. It’s a simple fact of science that steel, which has a melting point of around 2750 degrees, cannot be melted by kerosene, the major component of jet fuel, which has a burn temperature of about 1800 degrees. The jet fuel burned off quickly after the impact of the planes. The fires burned black, which indicates the lack of oxygen needed for a good fire. So right there, questions are raised in regards to the official story, that the jet fuel spread and caused the steel posts and girders to melt and collapse.
Even if this were true, the collapse would have been like a stack of pancakes, one floor on top of another. Instead, steel was still burning deep in the basement at least three weeks after 9/11. This type of fire is more consistent with chemical called thermite, which, when ignited, gives off a whitish smoke. That’s what can be seen at the BASE of the towers before they fell. It’s also consistent with testimony from William Rodriguez, a 20 year employee of the WTC, who heard and felt a major explosion in the basement, moments before the place impacted. An employee in the basement suffered serious burns, others were hurt by debris, and in the lobby, marble facing on the walls and many windows were blown out...before the collapse. In addition, film of the collapse shows what appears to be explosive charges being detonated floor by floor by floor as the Towers collapse; again, this is consistent with a con-dem.
Another major question has to do with the quality of the construction of the tower structures themselves. They were built to sustain a direct hit from a jet airliner. The amount of steel, along with the design, is impressive, to say the least. One engineer likened the impact of the jet plane to that of pencil going through a screen on your door or window. Now only was there not much left, but even experienced demolition experts and scientists had never seen anything like the molten remains. And steel beams were hurled and embedded in buildings hundreds of feet away from the towers, putting the lie to the “pancake” story.
And what about WTC 7? That building sustained only minor damage from the Twin Towers’ collapse, but came down in an obviously con-dem after 5 PM on 9/11. Why had NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, whose emergency bunker was located in the building, chosen to seek shelter elsewhere? Why did he state to TV cameras before the event that the building was “going to be coming down”? There’s much more, just google “WTC 7”.
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were launched directly as a result of the WTC bombings, and have resulted in untold suffering there, as well as here in the US of A. I have contacted our Representatives in Washington to determine if they have taken a position on the need to appoint and Independent Special Prosecutor to do a complete and honest investigation of the 9/11 bombings. I urge you to examine 911truth.org, 9-11review.com, thetruth247.com, 911weknow.com, and other websites, and determine for yourselves if we have been told the truth. By the way, the electrical power to the Twin Towers was shut down the weekend before the bombings, supposedly so new communications cable could be installed. Cable is what connects computer-controlled blasts in a con-dem. And, the new owner of the Towers, Larry Silverstein, who bought them just six weeks before 9/11, insured them fully against terrorist acts. He won a multi-billion court case against his insurers. How convenient. The Towers had been losing money due to low occupancy.
